In their 51 years of existence, they’ve been to four Stanley Cup Finals. They lost the first three appearances during their first three years in the NHL. In those 51 years they also made the playoffs 42 times. All in all they have had a lot of success, but haven’t been able to hoist the Cup until now. Continue reading

Not since 1997-98 has the NHL had back-to-back Stanley Cup champions. The Pittsburgh Penguins have won their fifth title in as many tries. They are quickly becoming a mainstay in the sport and it can all be traced back to when they drafted Sidney Crosby. Continue reading
We’ve seen this before. Back in 2009 the Pittsburgh Penguins were sluggish during the season. They made a coaching change and then low and behold the ended up hoisting the Stanley Cup in June.
How does a team who started out with a shaky goaltender and play down the stretch with a four man rotation on the blue line end up winning the Stanley Cup? I still don’t know the answer to that question. Continue reading
