Winning On One Leg

Was there any doubt that Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes wasn’t going to return to the game on one leg? No. In fact it didn’t seem necessary that he return with backup QB Chad Henne who led the Chiefs on a 93-yard touchdown drive that put them up by 10 in the second quarter. Of course we all know what Mahomes brings to the offense and he was forced to be measured in the second half. No scrambling and quick passes, but also a steady dose of rushes propelled them over Jacksonville. Going forward they will have to protect Mahomes from the pass rush and also himself if they want another trip to the Super Bowl.

One Down

This is becoming a well oiled machine. 49ers QB Brock Purdy threw for 332 yards and 3 touchdown passes in his first playoff start against the Seattle Seahawks. RB Christian McCaffrey ran for 119 yards with a receiving touchdown and WR Deebo Samuel had 133 receiving yards and a touchdown catch. The defense forced two turnovers in the second half and nearly shutout Seattle in the second half giving up a touchdown in garbage time. This was the third time facing their division rival and the 49ers swept them in impressive fashion. It’ll be interesting if this continues.

Patrick Mahomes’ Kryptonite

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was unbeaten in the months of November and December since being the starting quarterback in 2018. That has since changed with the Chiefs losing to the Cincinnati Bengals for the third consecutive game. It would seem that the Bengals have a formula for beating the Chiefs and it involves causing turnovers and having their QB Joe Burrow be methodical in his approach to keeping Mahomes off the field. A rather simple gameplan in the grand scheme of things. This win by Cincinnati has them in the conversation for a top-2 seed come playoff time. They are keeping pace with the Baltimore Ravens who currently are in first place in the AFC North, but the Bengals now have the tiebreaker against Kansas City and they play Buffalo in a few weeks. It could interesting down the stretch for the Bengals.

This Is How It’s Supposed To Look

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw for 481 yards, 3 touchdown passes and ran for another. This was done in the course of their blowout victory at home against the Atlanta Falcons. It also put the Bengals in a tie for the division lead with Baltimore having the tiebreaker against them going into Week 8. When the Bengals are on their game, this is what they look like. They are a high powered offense that can score points in bunches and the defense is flying under the radar around the league. They were 7 yards short of having three receivers gain over 100 yards receiving in the game. It’s been a rough start for them, but for their sake they better hope that Super Bowl hangover is done with.
