Patrick Mahomes’ Kryptonite

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was unbeaten in the months of November and December since being the starting quarterback in 2018. That has since changed with the Chiefs losing to the Cincinnati Bengals for the third consecutive game. It would seem that the Bengals have a formula for beating the Chiefs and it involves causing turnovers and having their QB Joe Burrow be methodical in his approach to keeping Mahomes off the field. A rather simple gameplan in the grand scheme of things. This win by Cincinnati has them in the conversation for a top-2 seed come playoff time. They are keeping pace with the Baltimore Ravens who currently are in first place in the AFC North, but the Bengals now have the tiebreaker against Kansas City and they play Buffalo in a few weeks. It could interesting down the stretch for the Bengals.

Week 12 Review of the NFL

Does This Fix The Problem?

So apparently the New York Jets have a quarterback controversy at the weirdest possible time. Heading into December this is not the time any team wants this to happen. For the Jets it seemed to be the right call after their win against the Chicago Bears. Now this doesn’t mean I’m jumping on the bandwagon. The Bears are not a good team. Even if their QB Justin Fields was able to play in the game, which he didn’t. However, QB Mike White who became a folk hero last season, completed 22 of his 28 passes for 315 yards and threw for 3 touchdowns. Zach Wilson, the former number two overall pick, has started 7 games this season and had only thrown 4 touchdown passes. Again, I’m not jumping on the Jets bandwagon, but this could have solved a huge problem.

Week 11 Review of the NFL

Dallas’ Not So Secret Weapon

I’ve been hearing about it for a while now. RB Tony Pollard needs to be utilized more in the Dallas Cowboys offense. That has certainly been the case this season and it was helped by an injury to RB Ezekiel Elliott. With Elliott’s return this past week against the Minnesota Vikings there was a thought that Pollard’s usage would be reduced. On the contrary that didn’t happen at all. Now Pollard wasn’t the only reason why the Cowboys destroyed the Vikings 40-3. But it can’t be ignored that while Pollard is playing this way the Cowboys can ill afford to change this going forward toward December.

Week 10 Review of the NFL

Yeah, That Was Good

If there was a better way for the league to market their NFL+ service, I haven’t seen it yet. The game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills can’t be quantified in a highlight package. You have to see it from beginning to end. The plays being made by Vikings WR Justin Jefferson and Bills WR Stephon Diggs were out of this world. When you thought the game was over with Buffalo having the ball on their own 1-yard line, they fumbled the snap and Minnesota recovered it for a touchdown. Of course this game would eventually go to overtime, but a an interception thrown by Josh Allen sealed the victory for the Vikings who are now 8-1. Consider watching a full replay of this one. You won’t regret it.

Week 9 Review of the NFL

A Statement Was Made In The AFC East

Normally the Buffalo Bills are the ones making a statement in their own division. That wasn’t the case this past week as the New York Jets made a statement with their home victory over the Bills. New York’s quarterback Zach Wilson is doing enough to get points on the board, but the Jets defense has been playing great of late. There is beginning to be a sense of optimism growing within the Jets franchise and it is starting with their head coach Robert Saleh. At this moment the Jets are looking more and more like a playoff team and that is something no one expected when this season began.
