Week 14 Review of the NFL

Can They Shock The Football World?

There is a possibility that the Jacksonville Jaguars could be in the playoffs by winning their division. It’s no secret that the AFC South has been awful this year. With the Jaguars dominating win against Tennessee this past week, they are in position to clinch the division title. This doesn’t mean that the Jaguars are going to win the rest of their games. They play host to the Dallas Cowboys and play the Jets in New York. But they also play the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans for their last two games of the season. If the Jaguars do shock the football world, you heard it here first.

They Are In Position For A Playoff Spot

Before the season started I had said that I wouldn’t be surprised if the Detroit Lions finished second in their division, but it wouldn’t mean that they are a playoff team. With how bad the NFC has been overall this season the Lions are poised to clinch a playoff spot with Seattle stumbling and either Washington or the New York Giants falling back. Detroit has won 5 of their last 6 games and their schedule to finish the season is extremely favorable. Their history would suggest that an epic failure is expected, but for now this Lions team is playing up to their potential.

The Third One Is The Charm

The San Francisco 49ers are currently being led by their third starting quarterback this season. Trey Lance went down in the second game of the season. Jimmy Garoppolo went down a few weeks ago against Miami. Now in steps Brock Purdy who was the last pick of the draft this past year. He played at Iowa State which isn’t an unknown FBS school and while Purdy was their starting quarterback, the Cyclones were a contender in the Big 12. Yet, the fact remains that he was passed by every team, including the 49ers for most of the draft. That usually doesn’t mean he gets a ringing endorsement, but with the way he has played since Garoppolo went down he doesn’t look like a guy who was the last pick of the draft. Yes, if you don’t know by now I’m a 49ers fan, but I am realistic about it. I don’t always have them in the Super Bowl or even put them in the playoffs. But the way this team has been playing of late I’m there with them as contenders. Getting RB Christian McCaffrey has been a boom for them on offense. Their defense has been the best the in the NFL this season and with Purdy looking like a seasoned veteran in his limited time out there this is a scary good team. A win against Seattle gets them the division title and with Washington, Las Vegas and Arizona to finish out the year they could move up to the second seed or possibly the first if Philadelphia stumbles down the stretch.
