1. Oakland Athletics
A top-notch bullpen with a balanced lineup keeps them in contention.
2. Texas Rangers
Their lineup is greatly improved to get them back to October.
3. Los Angeles Angels
If Pujols and Hamilton are right they’ll be tough to beat.
4. Seattle Mariners
One star player won’t help their run scoring issues.
5. Houston Astros
A vast amount of young talent awaits them in 1-2 years.

Player to Watch: 2B Robinson Cano Seattle Mariners
This is really a case study for the rest of baseball. Could spending $240 million on one player really turn around a franchise? Most would say absolutely not because a good chunk of that money could go to help improve an entire team. Seattle is in a desperate part of their history with a GM that hasn’t been able to put together a winner and with a lot of infighting and a managerial change this is a make or break season. Cano is a great player, but going to a notorious pitchers park, even with the fences moved in will prove to be a challenge for the former Yankee. He got his money, but will Seattle get their moneys worth?

Best Acquisition: 1B Prince Fielder Texas Rangers
We all wondered what would happen to the Rangers offense when players like Josh Hamilton, Mike Napoli and Michael Young were no longer on the team. Well they were still one of the best offensive teams in baseball, but it resulted in no Postseason last season and an early exit the year before. Not only did Texas improve their offense going into 2014, but they went above and beyond by getting Prince Fielder. They parted with 2B Ian Kinsler to get Fielder and then signed Shin-Soo Choo after the Winter Meetings. There are lots of questions with their pitching in Texas, but they hope to score a lot of runs until the pitching settles in for the summer.

New Kid on the Block: 2B Jurickson Profar Texas Rangers
With Kinsler’s departure it is now time to see what Profar can do. Unfortunately he suffered a shoulder injury in Spring Training and will miss the first two months of the season. That could set him back, but when he does return he’ll have a position on this team and won’t be shuffled around the diamond like he was last year. Texas has him rated as a better shortstop than Elvis Andrus, but with over $100 million invested in Elvis, Texas has Profar at second. His bat is a good blend of hitting and power, but they love his speed and base running. If he’s as good as advertised then the Rangers will be hard pressed to maybe move Andrus in the near future.
