Snow Game!
When the weather outside is frightful, I certainly get a lot more delightful watching a football game. Especially when it is a snow game. That was the case between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills. It looked as though it was going to be a one-sided affair with the Bengals getting a sizable lead going into halftime. QB Joe Burrow had returned to action the previous week and was playing like he had never left. Then the Bills remembered that they were playing at home and QB Josh Allen did what he usually does and finished the game with 3 passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in the Bills home victory. Burrow stumbled in the second half throwing two interceptions including a back breaking pick-six to Buffalo. The Bills stay pace for the AFC East division title and the Bengals playoff hopes are just about over. Not a bad game to watch in the end as the first snow game of the season is in the books.
A Familiar Foe
If the Chicago Bears want to be taken seriously, they are going to have to defeat the Green Bay Packers. A 14-3 halftime deficit was certainly a case of deja vu for the Bears. Chicago is finding a groove on offense lately with the duo of D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai at running back in recent weeks. That is opening things up in the passing game for QB Caleb Williams, but apparently not having WR Rome Odunze for this matchup was throwing him off. The Bears did get back in the game for the second half. Green Bay was staying ahead with QB Jordan Love playing one of his best games of the season. With Chicago being down by 7 late in the game and the final drive of the game being led by Williams, the Bears were driving and getting to Green Bay’s 10-yard line. However, the awareness of Williams was proven poor as he was scrambling to his left under pressure by multiple defenders and threw a floater towards the end zone, but well short of his receiver and it was intercepted. If he had better awareness he would have seen WR DJ Moore come wide open underneath for an easy touchdown late in the game. That’s the Bears season in a nutshell. Even in games that they won handedly, they are somewhat incomplete as the Bears struggle when there shouldn’t be any issues whatsoever.
No Confidence In Either Of Them
This past Monday night saw two teams that are well within contention for a playoff spot. The Philadelphia Eagles are in control of their destiny as the top team in the NFC East. The Los Angeles Chargers are within two games of the AFC West and occupy a Wild Card spot. With all of that these two teams are flailing at the worst possible time. The Eagles offense is sputtering beyond belief and even when RB Saquon Barkley did score a long touchdown run of 52-yards, it didn’t seem to snap them out of their funk. The Chargers cannot protect QB Justin Herbert at all as he was sacked 7 times. They desperately were trying to get something going by running the ball as they attempted 36 rushes to 26 pass attempts for the game. If the Chargers didn’t have Cameron Dicker, they would be in serous trouble as he made all five of his field goal attempts including the eventual game winner in overtime. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was certainly the story of this one as he turned the ball over 5 times with 4 interceptions and a fumble. A play that will define this season in the NFL occurred when Hurt threw one of his interceptions to the Chargers who then fumbled the ball only to have Hurts recover it and then promptly fumbled it himself. Cue the circus music as the state of play has become a circus far too often in the NFL.
