One Guy Took Over The Game
It doesn’t happen very often where one player can have a gigantic impact on an entire game. Specifically with a defensive player in today’s NFL. Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett did just that against the Indianapolis Colts. He had 9 tackles, 2 sacks, blocked a field goal and had a pass deflection. While the Colts did score plenty of points, if that field goal attempt had been made, they likely would have beaten Cleveland. Garrett has long been an established force on defense. This kind of performance is putting him in the conversation of Defensive Player of the Year.
Great Nickname (Also A Good Debut)
The ‘Secret Bagent Man’, also known as Tyson Bagent started his first game in the NFL for the Chicago Bears. He won the backup quarterback job in training camp as an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd University, a Division II school. Suffice it to say he was a relative unknown when he entered the league. With QB Justin Fields out with a thumb injury, Bagent stepped in and did a fine job against the Las Vegas Raiders. He completed 21 of 29 passes for 162 yards and threw one touchdown pass. It also helped that Chicago ran the ball effectively with RB D’Onta Foreman rushing for two touchdowns on 89 yards. He also caught Bagent’s touchdown pass. This doesn’t mean there is a controversy brewing in Chicago at quarterback. It’s just a cool story with a unique nickname.
Potential Turned Into Frustration
This was shaping up to be a great game, but turned into a dud with Miami not playing up to their billing. That isn’t to take credit away from Philadelphia and how they took control of the game. Yet, I can’t ever remember the last time a team didn’t commit a single accepted penalty in an entire game. The Eagles did just that and there were some blatant ones that should have been called on them. We are at a point where there can be a penalty called on every single play. All I demand is consistency and accountability when referees do a terrible job. Miami didn’t play well for most of the contest. That’s not to say that there isn’t a huge problem that is continuing to rear its head with each passing season in the league when it comes to its referees.
