This Is How It’s Supposed To Look

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw for 481 yards, 3 touchdown passes and ran for another. This was done in the course of their blowout victory at home against the Atlanta Falcons. It also put the Bengals in a tie for the division lead with Baltimore having the tiebreaker against them going into Week 8. When the Bengals are on their game, this is what they look like. They are a high powered offense that can score points in bunches and the defense is flying under the radar around the league. They were 7 yards short of having three receivers gain over 100 yards receiving in the game. It’s been a rough start for them, but for their sake they better hope that Super Bowl hangover is done with.

2022 World Series Preview

Two narratives are forming from the 2022 Postseason. One argument has formed that argues the top teams are at a disadvantage because of the layoff i.e, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves getting ousted in the Division Series with relative ease. The other argument is to never discount the Wild Card team in any given Postseason. The latter argument still holds water while the other I would retort with if you don’t handle your business when it’s your turn, why should anyone try to defend your poor play? Either way with this World Series matchup we have a Wild Card team in the Philadelphia Phillies. Their last appearance was in 2009. They won the World Series in 2008, but have been in rebuild mode for over a decade. Now they’ve returned and will go up against the Houston Astros who are making their fourth appearance in the Fall Classic in the last six seasons. So far the Astros haven’t lost a game this Postseason, but that could change with the Phillies vaunted offense and solid bullpen. Houston boasts a stacked lineup and a near shutdown bullpen, but their rotation could be the x-factor in this series. Lets hope for a good series that doesn’t involve a one-sided affair.

Week 6 Review of the NFL

Well Worth My Time

This was the first game of the season that I can honestly say I could rewatch and look forward to it. While it wasn’t what their Divisional Round matchup was last year it didn’t disappoint. The Buffalo Bills have earned the early edge of being the best team in the AFC after their win against the Kansas City Chiefs. Bills QB Josh Allen threw a dart to TE Dawson Knox for the game winning touchdown and he solidified himself as an early favorite for the MVP award. Health is always going to be a concern for any contender, but it especially will factor in for Buffalo. Their defense is without Micah Hyde and Tre’Davious White, although White should be returning at some point this season. Hyde was lost for the year a few weeks ago. Kansas City was in it the whole way, but the turnover bug bit them with Patrick Mahomes throwing two interceptions and they never established the running game once again. This could be a rematch later in the year in January, but for now Buffalo showed they are going to be a tough team to beat.

2022 MLB Championship Series Preview

New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros

They were on the brink of being eliminated in 4 games by the Cleveland Guardians in the Division Series. Thanks in large part to Gerrit Cole who pitched 7 innings for the Yankees in Game 4 that was avoided. Cole struck out 16 batters in his two starts for the series with a 2.03 ERA thus earning his salary. Nestor Cortes in his two starts had a 2.70 ERA and Clay Holmes didn’t allow a run out of the bullpen in his 4 appearances. The bats were alive and well with Giancarlo Stanton leading the way with 6 RBI and half of those coming from a 3-run HR in Game 5. Anthony Rizzo batted .294 with 4 RBI and Harrison Bader had 3 home runs and batted a respectable .267. Aaron Judge didn’t have a great series, but his presence was felt with him getting 2 home runs. If New York wants to return to the World Series, their pitching staff will need to be near perfect the rest of the way.

Week 5 Review of the NFL

An Actual Must See Game In The NFC East?

I’ve said for many years now that the NFC East is a Jekyll and Hyde division. I never know which version of the four teams will show up in a given week. Dare I say that may be changing now with the way the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles have been playing this year. For Dallas they are winning games without their star quarterback Dak Prescott. Backup QB Cooper Rush has been solid and the Cowboys’ defense has been among the best in the league. Their dominance was on full display against the Los Angeles Rams this past week, but their biggest test will come against the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Not to mention the New York Giants are 4-1, but I’m not quite there with saying they’re contenders just yet. Assuming the Cowboys-Eagles matchup next week lives up to the hype, this will shape the hierarchy for the NFC the rest of the season.
