Recap of Super Bowl LX

Well, That Was Something

I came close to the final score of the game in my preview, but the outcome I was way off. I figured with the defense’s that the Patriots were able to defeat in the AFC playoffs that QB Drake Maye would be able to handle what the Seattle Seahawks would throw at him. Once Maye was sacked the first time in the game the writing was on the wall for this one. The play I highlighted above is just one example of what the Seahawks were able to do to the Patriots offensive line all day long.

I was correct in my preview of this Super Bowl that whichever team is able to establish its running game will be victorious in the end. Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III ran for 135 yards and would be named MVP of the game in the end. It was the most rushing yards in a Super Bowl since Super Bowl XXXII (32) in 1998 by Denver Broncos RB Terrell Davis who ran for 157 yards in that game. It so happened to also be the last time a running back won the Super Bowl MVP award.

When you can affect a quarterbacks confidence early and often in a game, that does wonders when your own offense is struggling to find a rhythm. However, Seattle were taking the points when they had opportunities to score them in field goals by kicking five of them for 15 of their 29 total points scored. Seattle’s last score of the game came on defense with Uchenna Nwosu returning Maye’s second interception of the game for a touchdown. That play was setup by a deceptive corner blitz from Devon Witherspoon who did it masterfully early in the game for his lone sack.

This game was really a perfect microcosm of this season. Mostly average quarterback play and a defense that puts the rest of the league on notice. The cliche that every football game is won and lost in the trenches holds true once again as one quarterback was sacked 6 times and the winning team ran the ball for well over 100 yards.

Congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks on winning their second Super Bowl title in franchise history.
