Week 12 Review of the NFL

A Home-Run Threat Every Time

Almost every time RB Jahmyr Gibbs touches the football he has the potential to run all the way for a touchdown. He showed that for the Detroit Lions as they needed him to comeback and defeat the New York Giants. Since the Lions drafted him he has always had the potential to break one loose for a long run. This season though he has shown that he isn’t just relegated to running outside the tackles to break loose. He’s running between the tackles getting open lanes for big gains or even the long touchdown runs. He’s always been a threat as a pass catcher as well and is primed for a career year in that category. It hasn’t been a stellar year for the Lions so far, but the main reason they are still in contention starts with the play of Jahmyr Gibbs.

Their Defense Is Legit

It wasn’t expected that Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen was going to have a repeat performance of scoring 6 total touchdowns like he did the previous week against Tampa Bay. Reason being is that the Houston Texans defense won’t make it that easy for Allen to accomplish that feat again. That was certainly the case as Allen had one of his worst games of the season getting sacked 8 times and throwing two interceptions. The glaring omission was that Allen didn’t score a single touchdown for the game either. Houston’s defense is the main reason why they have remained in contention for a playoff spot after starting out going 0-3 for the season. They have now won four out of their last five and have allowed their opponents to score 20 or more points only three times so far this season. If they end up defeating the Indianapolis Colts and the Kansas City Chiefs on the road in their next two games, they will put themselves in a great spot to get to the playoffs once again.

This Offense Is Cooked

The Philadelphia Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead on the Dallas Cowboys. They then saw that lead evaporate as they allowed the Cowboys to score 24 unanswered points to end up losing the game. When the Eagles offense is one point they are almost unstoppable. Yet, this season has been far from that. In the Eagles two losses before their bye week they scored less than 20 points. In the three games since their bye week they have struggled to score points. They scored only 10 and 16 points against the Packers and Lions respectively. Those games were victories, but that was thanks mostly to their defense. They are winning games in spit of their offensive struggles. This wasn’t the case against Dallas as the defense could only do so much and the Cowboys defense who has been less than stellar actually outplayed the Eagles in this matchup. The Eagles schedule has a few easy matchups the rest of the way with the Las Vegas Raiders at home and the Washington Commanders twice. However, if they lose to the Chicago Bears in their next matchup then more questions will be asked of this team’s drive as the defending Super Bowl champions.
