What The Hell Was That?
I’ve seen some questionable play-calling in my time, but what was put together by Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was one for the ages. A game that had no defense to speak of by either the Packers or the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay decided to put on the brakes and pull back on the reigns. Dallas retook the lead late in the 4th quarter, but the Packers had all of their timeouts and could have easily matriculated the ball down the field once again against a horrible Dallas defense. They started to, but their mind was made up of settling for a game tying field goal. In overtime, the Cowboys were going for the touchdown, but were actually stymied in the redzone and kicked the field goal. Green Bay takes their sweet time and had only one second left in overtime to kick the game tying field goal for this contest to end in a tie. QB Jordan Love only has these kinds of games against Dallas. This performance was squandered by the lack of urgency to get the win late in this one by a coach who looks like he’s losing control of any positive narrative after a 2-0 start to the season.
The Bungals Are Here To Stay
Most knew that if Bengals QB Joe Burrow went down with another injury that it would likely be the end of their hopes for an extended playoff run. That has quickly become the case as after starting the season 2-0, they have lost their last two games in horrible fashion. They were blown out by the Minnesota Vikings 48-10 and this last week they were thumped on Monday night 28-3 by the Denver Broncos. For their sake these losses were on the road as to not embarrass their fans in person at home. Yet, this is quickly becoming the norm for this franchise in the Burrow era. Having suffered a torn ligament in his toe during their second game of the season, they invested heavily in him and his top two receivers in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Now that Chase and Higgins are having to rely on backup QB Jake Browning playing behind a porous offensive line and the non-inventive gameplans of their head coach in Zac Taylor, this season is heading off a cliff. Currently they are last in rushing yards per game, 30th in passing yards per game and last in total yards per game. Good luck getting out of this hole for the rest of the season.
This Ain’t Working
Injuries are apart of every sport no matter what. It’s what makes good teams elite teams when they can adjust and overcome that part of the season. I don’t think the Baltimore Ravens are gonna be able to overcome the amount of injuries they are dealing with. Not to mention how atrocious they have been playing of late. Take away the comeback win that Buffalo accomplished against them during the first week. The Ravens were thoroughly dominated at home on a Monday night game against the Detroit Lions. This past week they had nothing in them against the Kansas City Chiefs on their home turf. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes looked like his old self throwing for 4 touchdowns in the process. Their next two games are at home against the Houston Texans and the Los Angeles Rams. They are certainly winnable games before they go on their bye week, but the added wrinkle is they will probably have to win them without QB Lamar Jackson who suffered a hamstring injury against the Chiefs. Time to get the ball back to RB Derrick Henry who didn’t fumble in Kansas City.
