Week 2 Review of the NFL

A Course Correction

I suppose that first game was a bit of an aberration for the Detroit Lions. Everything works out when you play the Chicago Bears. QB Jared Goff threw for 334 yards and 5 touchdown passes, three of them to WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. More importantly RBs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery each had a rushing touchdown and combined for over 120 yards rushing. Detroit’s defense forced two turnovers and sacked Bears QB Caleb Williams four times. What was even more fitting was that the Lions did all of this against their former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson who is now the head coach of the Bears. Now if Detroit can keep this going they will be in pretty good shape the rest of the way.

The Clock Is Ticking

We’ve seen it before with the Kansas City Chiefs having their struggles to score points. It’s no different to start this season with WR Xavier Worthy suffering a dislocated shoulder during their Week 1 game against the LA Chargers. WR Rashee Rice has been suspended for the first six games of the season. Not to mention TE Travis Kelce isn’t getting any younger. Yet, there is a serious issue if QB Patrick Mahomes is leading their offense in rushing yards with 66 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs defense did their job for the most part. For the offense’s part they have no playmakers right now and the running game is basically non-existent. This could be the beginning of the ultimate demise of the Chiefs dynasty, but for now if they take care of the New York Giants next week, this will likely be forgotten.

Same Old Jets

I wasn’t expecting them to win against the Buffalo Bills. I just didn’t think that they would completely roll over after playing a competitive contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers the previous week. QB Justin Fields reverted back to his old self and was forced out of the game due to a concussion. RB Breece Hall was shut down and was never a factor. The Jets defense couldn’t keep pace and was ran over by Bills RB James Cook who ran for two touchdowns and 132 yards rushing. New York’s schedule isn’t as daunting as others, but if they keep allowing 30 points or more, this offense isn’t going to keep pace. Things are probably going to get worse before they get any better for the Jets.
