Game Of The Year Already?
If you wanted to watch a game that had everything from a double digit comeback, to the last two seasons MVP’s duking it out, this was it. Now there were a few things that helped Buffalo immensely in this game. Baltimore Ravens rookie kicker Tyler Loop missed an extra point after their last touchdown of the game. A special teams player for Baltimore decided to slide after the ball, but slid onto the goal line which resulted in a touchback. And Ravens RB Derrick Henry fumbled at the most inopportune time in the 4th quarter. The Bills still needed to execute after those miscues and boy did reigning MVP Josh Allen deliver. He threw for 394 yards for the game, but the majority of that came in the 4th quarter with 251 yards. Buffalo might have a problem going forward with their defense, but I’m betting most teams are going to have issues stopping QB Lamar Jackson and RB Derrick Henry. If there’s one game to watch from beginning to end it is going to be this one.
I Didn’t Expect This
QB Aaron Rodgers playing his first game for the Pittsburgh Steelers against his former team the New York Jets. QB Justin Fields playing his first game for the New York Jets against his former team in the Steelers. I wasn’t expecting a quarterback duel per se, but this game delivered that. Rodgers threw for 4 TD passes in the win and Fields threw for one and also ran for two touchdowns. Fields was impressive and was able to gash the Steelers defense throughout the game. Rodgers certainly didn’t need a lot of motivation as he seemed rejuvenated in the first game of the season. Pittsburgh will probably need to get that running game going as to not be overly dependent on Rodgers having this kind of a performance week in and week out. If the Jets defense can rebound they might have something here with Fields and RB Breece Hall who ran for 107 yards with 38 receiving yards as well.
Problems Could Be Brewing
When a team as good as the Detroit Lions loses both coordinators for the offense and defense to other teams to be their new head coach it doesn’t always bode well for the one that lost them. Detroit had their first test against their division rival the Green Bay Packers and unfortunately for the Lions they failed this test. Detroit’s defense had moments, but they didn’t have any help from the offense. The Lions didn’t score a touchdown until there was one minute left in the game. By then it was too late and they will need to regroup and figure out how to get their vaunted running game going. They will not be successful with just 46 rushing yards on 22 attempts. If the results are similar in their next game this will be a long season for the Lions.
