This Doesn’t Happen Very Often For Them
The Detroit Lions have been around for 95 seasons. They have now accomplished something only twice in their entire existence, have a 10-1 record in the regular season. The last time they had a 10-1 record was in 1934. That pretty much tells you how inept this franchise has been for most of its existence. That isn’t the case right now as they will have finished consecutive seasons with double digit wins for the first time ever. Head coach Dan Campbell is pushing all the right buttons and the defense is actually playing its best football at the moment having not allowed a touchdown in their last two games. Detroit is in control of having home field advantage right now, but Philadelphia and Minnesota are only a game out from tying Detroit for the best record in the NFC.
Houston Isn’t What We Thought They Were
The Houston Texans had two games this season where they looked really bad and weren’t worthy of a first place team. Then they reset and won in a blowout against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. This past week they hosted their lowly division rivals, the Tennessee Titans. What should have been a victory became a classic ‘trap’ game for the Texans. Even with the advantage of sacking Titans QB Will Levis eight times in the game, he managed to throw two touchdown passes and one of them for 70-yards. Texans QB C.J. Stroud threw two interceptions and they couldn’t get anything going on the ground with RB Joe Mixon who is the clear catalyst on offense. Houston’s season was perfectly encapsulated with Stroud running out the back of the end zone for a safety on their final possession. They are fortunate they play Jacksonville next week, but that’s another ‘trap’ game for them before their bye week. They are also fortunate that they play in an awful division as well.
Snow Game!
This time of year is great in that there is the potential for a snow game on a football field. Watching the highlights of that second half between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns brought back all the memories of other snow games in the history of the NFL. Didn’t matter to me what the outcome of the game was with the Steelers playing their worst game of the year so far against the Browns. One thing was certain for me after this is that these games are becoming more and more rare if teams that want new stadiums opt for an enclosed one rather than an open air one. The only reason teams don’t want anymore open air stadiums is so that the league will choose them to host a Super Bowl. In the meantime enjoy these snow games when they occur.
