Five Interceptions Didn’t Doom Them
Normally when a quarterback throws five interceptions he either gets benched or the team has played so poorly that they had no chance of winning the game. That wasn’t the case with Detroit as they in spite of QB Jared Goff throwing five interceptions scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to comeback and defeat the Houston Texans on Sunday night. Houston’s offense was inept in that entire second half and their QB C.J. Stroud also threw two interceptions of his own in the game. Detroit’s kicker Jake Bates converted two 50+ yard field goals to tie and win the game. The Detroit Lions are quickly becoming the best and perhaps most resilient team in the NFL this season.
The 2024 NFL Season In A Nutshell
Five of the Cincinnati Bengals six losses this season were within one possession. Meaning that they theoretically should be 9-1 right now. QB Joe Burrow in spite of their horrendous defense is playing like a MVP and the way in which the Baltimore Ravens defense played against Burrow and WR Ja’Marr Chase this past Sunday proved they aren’t what people think they are this season. QB Lamar Jackson is still playing out of his mind right now and RB Derrick Henry rushed the ball 16 times and scored one rushing touchdown. That defense though, specifically the secondary is going to cost them more games this season, perhaps even in the playoffs. It’s a pass happy league with no defense. This game between Cincinnati and Baltimore on Thursday night proved that.
It Didn’t Help, Nor Did It Hurt
This was the first real test for the Washington Commanders this season. While the Pittsburgh Steelers are not thought of as an elite team in all aspects, their record is undeniable especially with the way their defense is playing this season. Pittsburgh’s offense is beginning to click and they had a big test themselves against Washington’s defense. It was a grudge match between these two. In the end the Steelers offense got the final score from newly acquired WR Mike Williams who caught a 32-yard touchdown from QB Russell Wilson. For Washington this doesn’t mean they are frauds, far from it. It just means that they have won the games that a team is supposed to if they are to be champions eventually. That statement doesn’t mean I’m putting them in that class yet, but losing to the Steelers should give them the needed experience to not let it happen again going forward if they want to beat the top tier teams in the future.
