Week 2 Review of the NFL

So This Is How They Are Gonna Play Now?

This game was over from the start. The hype surrounding this matchup was just a tease. The Buffalo Bills were clearly the better team. And that was before Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa was concussed. Tua had thrown three interceptions and just didn’t look comfortable throwing the ball even when he wasn’t under duress. Bills QB Josh Allen didn’t even need to run the ball himself to win this one. He gave the ball early and often to RB James Cook who ran for two touchdowns and caught one as well. The defense did what it had to do with fresh legs because Buffalo established the running game. This is what Buffalo has to do. Take the emphasis and pressure off Allen and get others involved. He has already established himself as a good quarterback and he can be great if they can just get over the hump of getting to an AFC Championship game. This is the blueprint to get them there.

You Had One Job To Do Philly

I’m not gonna put this all on RB Saquon Barkley. Yes, he should have caught that pass on their final drive, but why in the hell did the Eagles not continue to rush the ball up the gut? Atlanta couldn’t stop that and Philly just gave them a break from it. Thus stopping the clock and giving the ball back to Atlanta. The Falcons had no timeouts and who would have thought they could score a touchdown with less than two minutes to go? Well, everyone but the Eagles apparently because their defense decided to play ‘prevent’ and still couldn’t mount a pass rush to save themselves when they needed it. Atlanta scores a game winning touchdown and intercepts Eagles QB Jalen Hurts to complete the come from behind victory. Is this the same Eagles, but with different coordinators this time around?

There Will Be Growing Pains Chicago

You shouldn’t be surprised. This was his second game of his career and it was on a nationally televised game. The spotlight was on him and it wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t all Bears QB Caleb Williams’ fault. The offensive line didn’t do him any favors, but he missed on some throws that you have to make at this level. His first start was a team win at home against Tennessee, but this one against Houston was a ‘welcome to the NFL’ moment for him. The panic button doesn’t need to be set in yet, but there needs to be some reflection on how this offense is going to function going forward. As of now this current iteration isn’t going to work if the Bears want to make immediate progress from what most are expecting from them since drafting Caleb Williams.
