1. Buffalo Bills
The chances are dwindling that they will win a fifth consecutive division title, but with a healthy Josh Allen at quarterback it puts them ahead of the rest of the division.
2. New York Jets
They want to win not just a division title, but a Super Bowl title. This will be their best chance to do it with what they hope is a full healthy season from Aaron Rodgers.
3. Miami Dolphins
A massive extension for QB Tua Tagovailoa cinches the fact that Miami is all in for Tua. If he can cut down on the interceptions they could push for potentially hosting a playoff game instead of being left out in the cold.
4. New England Patriots
If you thought last season was rough. Patience is needed for the roster to take shape, but does owner Robert Kraft have that kind of patience?
Head Coach: Sean McDermott
Key Position: Wide Receiver
Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis are both gone and to replace them are rookie Keon Coleman and free agent acquisitions Mack Hollins, Curtis Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Hollins and Coleman are potential redzone targets due to their size (6-4 and 6-3 respectively). If Valdes-Scantling doesn’t suffer the case of the drops, he can be the home run threat for QB Josh Allen. Samuel is the wild card who can be utilized in multiple positions on the offense. Look for an even better season from TE Dalton Kincaid who was becoming a favorite of Allen’s down the stretch last season.
Key Acquisitions: DB Mike Edwards (Kansas City Chiefs), WR Mack Hollins (Atlanta Falcons), DT Austin Johnson (LA Chargers), LB Nicholas Morrow (Philadelphia Eagles), WR Curtis Samuel (Washington Commanders), WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Kansas City Chiefs)
Key Rookies: WR Keon Coleman, DB Cole Bishop, DT DeWayne Carter
Head Coach: Robert Saleh
Key Position: Offensive Line
The goal is to keep QB Aaron Rodgers upright for a full season. The Jets invested heavily in the offensive line acquiring Morgan Moses and Tyron Smith to be the bookend tackles. John Simpson was signed away from Baltimore after a solid season there. Their first round pick was OT Olu Fashanu out of Penn State. This unit has to be better if they are to make a playoff run.
Key Acquisitions: DT Javon Kinlaw (San Francisco 49ers), OT Morgan Moses (Baltimore Ravens), CB Isaiah Oliver (San Francisco 49ers), OL John Simpson (Baltimore Ravens), OT Tyron Smith (Dallas Cowboys), QB Tyrod Taylor (NY Giants), WR Mike Williams (LA Chargers), DE/LB Haason Reddick (Philadelphia Eagles)
Key Rookies: OT Olu Fashanu, WR Malachi Corley, RB Braelon Allen, RB Isaiah Davis
Head Coach: Mike McDaniel
Key Position: Defense
This unit faltered late in the season last year. Late season injuries to their top edge rushers, Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb didn’t help matters. Chubb will still miss some time to start this season, but the bigger loss is Christian Wilkins to free agency. Why they didn’t franchise tag him and get something in return for him is a mystery. Jordyn Brooks was signed to man the middle of the defense with Calais Campbell providing veteran leadership on the line. Zach Sieler has become a top tier rusher on the inside, but that was with Wilkins playing next to him. Jordan Poyer roamed the secondary for Buffalo for many years and Miami should benefit from having him on their side. Former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio improved this unit overall last season, but his ouster afterwards brings up more questions going forward.
Key Acquisitions: OL Aaron Brewer (Tennessee Titans), LB Jordyn Brooks (Seattle Seahawks), DL Calais Campbell (Atlanta Falcons), CB Kendall Fuller (Washington Commanders), DB Marcus Maye (New Orleans Saints), DB Jordan Poyer (Buffalo Bills), TE Jonnu Smith (Atlanta Falcons), WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Baltimore Ravens)
Key Rookies: LB Chop Robinson, OT Patrick Paul, RB Jaylen Wright
Head Coach: Jerod Mayo (Assistant Coach – Patriots)
Key Position: Everything
A new era is beginning in New England. Jerod Mayo played for and coached under Bill Belichick for many seasons. This is his first head coaching job and he has been given the blessing of owner Robert Kraft, but will Jerod be allowed time to get this ship on track? Eventually this will be rookie QB Drake Maye’s team, but they will have QB Jacoby Brissett handle the quarterback duties for the time being. RB Rhamondre Stevenson is their best offensive player, but that isn’t saying much. RB Antonio Gibson adds a much needed safety net on third down for the passing game. Rookie WR Ja’Lynn Polk could be a sneaky good receiver for them. The defense was a solid unit last season, but they must improve in rushing the passer and forcing turnovers.
Key Acquisitions: QB Jacoby Brissett (Washington Commanders), RB Antonio Gibson (Washington Commanders), TE Austin Hooper (Las Vegas Raiders), OT Chukwuma Okorafor (Pittsburgh Steelers), WR K.J. Osborn (Minnesota Vikings), LB Sione Takitaki (Cleveland Browns)
Key Rookies: QB Drake Maye, WR Ja’Lynn Polk, OL Caedan Wallace, OL Layden Robinson
