Another One Goes Down

Top tier quarterbacks continue to go down to season ending injuries. The latest one is Bengals QB Joe Burrow who has a torn ligament in his right wrist. This likely spells doom for Cincinnati’s season going forward as they were in the thick of the playoff race in the AFC and trying to stay afloat for the AFC North division. Burrow’s backup is QB Jake Browning who has seen little action since entering the league as a college free agent in 2019. He had a very good collegiate career at the University of Washington. His first test will come at home against Pittsburgh. If he develops a good rapport with the talented receiving unit, the Bengals could remain competitive in the AFC.

Not Like Last Year

The Super Bowl last year between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs was more of an offensive showcase between the two teams. This time around in their Monday night matchup it was a defensive showcase between the two. The one thing that became apparent as the game progressed is that Kansas City Chiefs need to admit that they do miss WR Tyreek Hill. Yes, they did win the Super Bowl last year without him, but they also had a reliable option to catch the ball and move the chains in WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. He’s no longer on the roster, but other than TE Travis Kelce, the Chiefs need someone to catch a pass in crunch time. With Kelce going through some struggles right now, someone will need to step up and shoulder the load. QB Patrick Mahomes can’t do it alone, but even he hasn’t had a great season either. Kansas City will be in the playoffs, but it remains to be seen if they’ll have home field at this point.

They’ve Come To A Sad Realization

You know it’s bad when the punter, Thomas Morstead on a fake punt throws a better pass than the teams starting quarterback the entire game. On that fake punt that extended a drive for the New York Jets, they came away scoring their only points of the game. It was a struggle just watching the Jets try to function on offense. There have been times that QB Zach Wilson has shown why he was the second overall pick for the Jets. More often than not though, he’s been a bust. To be fair it hasn’t all been Wilson’s fault. The play-calling has been confusing far too often. The offensive line has been a major question mark since training camp. There are good receivers that can make plays, but the ball needs to get in their hands. And what was the point of signing RB Dalvin Cook and pairing him with RB Breece Hall? If anyone should have been the focal point of the offense after Rodgers went down, it should have been Hall. Forget seeing Rodgers play this season. Even if he says he’s good to go in a few weeks, don’t play him. Chalk this season up as a dud and go for it again next year.
