We kind of got an inkling of what to expect after Game 1 of the World Series. Arizona had the early 5-1 lead to start the game. A Corey Seager game tying 2-run home run in the 9th inning took the game into extra innings where ALCS MVP Adolis Garcia hit a walk-off home run in the 11th. The Texas Rangers were not going to go away that easily.
The only time that Texas was stumped in the World Series was in Game 2 with Merrill Kelly pitching a gem for the D’Backs. The Rangers wouldn’t see him again for the rest of the series. Even with Garcia being shutdown with an oblique injury after Game 3, it didn’t affect Texas with Travis Jankowski driving in 2 runs and batting .286 in the three games he played in reserve for Garcia. Josh Jung batted .350 for the series and Marcus Semien was on fire driving in 8 runs for the Rangers.
World Series MVP Corey Seager has now won the award for the second time in his career. He was the World Series MVP for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2020 season. Seager just wouldn’t stop with the big hits for Texas batting .286 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI.
When Texas signed the likes of Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi in the offseason, they envisioned this moment of winning the World Series. Yet, that happened without deGrom, but with the likes of Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery who were trade deadline acquisitions. Eovaldi had a lot of moments in the clinching game of the series where Arizona could have easily taken the lead. He held firm and pitched a quality start for the Rangers in Game 5.
Texas’ bullpen shut the door just about every time out there. Josh Sborz earned a save in the series and only allowed 2 hits while striking out 6 in his two appearances. Jon Gray was signed as a starter two years ago, but pitched gems out of the bullpen, especially in Game 4. Jose Leclerc saved a game in the series and struck out 4 batters in his 3 appearances.
They hired Bruce Bochy as their manager to win a World Series. His fourth World Series title has put himself in an elite company of managers in baseball history. As a franchise, the Texas Rangers have had a lot of Postseason woes. That has been put on the back burner as they finished the marathon hoisting the trophy.
Congratulations to the Texas Rangers on winning their first World Series title in franchise history.
