Dropping 70 Points
The Miami Dolphins had a 35-13 halftime lead over the Denver Broncos. Little did I think that they would score another 35 points in the second half. Miami is on a similar trajectory to start this season from the one they had last season. With a healthy QB Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins playoff chances should be better than it was last year. The defense isn’t playing at an elite level under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Yet, when the offense is scoring 70 points you don’t really need to be the ’85 Bears. Miami’s first test of the season will come next week in Buffalo. Whoever wins that matchup will likely claim the AFC East going forward.
Just Play Like That
The Buffalo Bills are a frustrating team to watch. They have so much talent on the roster that when they play like they did in Week 1 against the New York Jets, it is rather disappointing. This past week they visited the 2-0 Washington Commanders and quickly showed that they were a flawed 2-0 team. Commanders QB Sam Howell threw 4 interceptions and was sacked 9 times. Buffalo controlled the flow on offense and QB Josh Allen threw and ran for a touchdown. They’ll play host to the Miami Dolphins next week. That is shaping up to be the game of the week for sure.
A Simple Formula
In a pass happy league for the better part of a decade plus, it is somewhat refreshing to see a team buck that trend and run the ball. The Arizona Cardinals ran it effectively the entire game for 222 yards on the ground. The Dallas Cowboys were exposed on defense and didn’t have any answers for it. It didn’t help that QB Dak Prescott threw an interception in the end zone late in the game when they were still down by two scores. Dallas didn’t do themselves any favors either by committing 13 penalties for the game. It continues to be a huge problem since Mike McCarthy has been the head coach. The formula was simple for the Cardinals to upset the Cowboys. Many more teams will be implementing this going forward.
