1. San Francisco 49ers
They have a stacked roster once again and the last pick of the 2022 draft, QB Brock Purdy, was one game away from leading them to a Super Bowl last season.
2. Seattle Seahawks
The surprise team of the 2022 season returns mostly intact with QB Geno Smith looking to prove he wasn’t a one year wonder.
3. Los Angeles Rams
This could be the final year with the trio of head coach Sean McVay, QB Matthew Stafford and DT Aaron Donald. All three have contemplated retiring in the last couple off-seasons.
4. Arizona Cardinals
It was a tear down operation with the previous front office and coaching staff being shown the door. The roster is currently under renovation as well.
Head Coach: Kyle Shanahan
Key Position: Secondary
This unit certainly improved last year from the year prior. They suffered some free agent losses, but they still have established playmakers with the likes of CB Charvarius Ward and DB Talanoa Hufanga. Adding CB Isaiah Oliver in free agency solidifies the nickel corner spot. Rookie DB Ji’Ayir Brown was a solid pick for them in the 3rd round.
Key Acquisitions: QB Sam Darnold (Carolina Panthers), OL Jon Feliciano (NY Giants), DL Clelin Ferrell (Las Vegas Raiders), DT Javon Hargrave (Philadelphia Eagles), CB Isaiah Oliver (Atlanta Falcons), OL Matt Pryor (Indianapolis Colts)
Key Rookies: DB Ji’Ayir Brown
Head Coach: Pete Carroll
Key Position: Defensive Line
When it came to rushing the passer, it wasn’t an issue for them last year. It was the running game that was a problem for them. They went out in the offseason to correct that by bringing in Mario Edwards Jr., Dre’Mont Jones and former Seahawk Jarran Reed. They also brought back another former Seahawk in LB Bobby Wagner who can help stuff the run. If Seattle gets back to the middle of the pack of the leagues run defense’s, it will reverberate to the rest of the unit as a whole.
Key Acquisitions: OL Evan Brown (Detroit Lions), LB Devin Bush (Pittsburgh Steelers), DL Mario Edwards Jr. (Tennessee Titans), DL Dre’Mont Jones (Denver Broncos), DB Julian Love (NY Giants), LB Bobby Wagner (LA Rams), DT Jarran Reed (Green Bay Packers)
Key Rookies: CB Devon Witherspoon, WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DE/LB Derick Hall, RB Zach Charbonnet, DT Cameron Young
Head Coach: Sean McVay
Key Position: Everything
Not the kind of showing they were expecting last season after winning the Super Bowl. QB Matthew Stafford and DL Aaron Donald could be playing in their final season. The offensive line in front of Stafford is quickly getting better, but will WR Cooper Kupp be back to his former self? RB Cam Akers should get plenty of touches after a tumultuous 2022. On defense it’s Aaron Donald and everybody else. There are a lot of young players on this side and it could come together quickly or be a complete disaster. It’ll be up the coaching staff to get them up to speed.
Key Acquisitions: DB John Johnson III (Cleveland Browns), WR Demarcus Robinson (Baltimore Ravens), CB Ahkello Witherspoon (Pittsburgh Steelers), TE Hunter Long (Miami Dolphins)
Key Rookies: OL Steve Avila, DE/LB Byron Young, DT Kobie Turner, QB Stetson Bennett
Head Coach: Jonathan Gannon (Philadelphia Eagles)
Key Position: Everything
They are the most recent example of blowing it up and starting fresh. From the front office, to the coaching staff, down to the roster. They won’t rush QB Kyler Murray from his knee injury last season. Enter Joshua Dobbs to be the guy behind the center. Yikes. RB James Conner will likely be the workhorse on offense. WRs Marquise Brown and Rondale Moore are the best targets, but they’ll have to wait for Murray to return. TE Zach Ertz can be productive, but injuries are starting to catch up to him. The offensive line is beginning to take shape with the drafting of OT Paris Johnson Jr. in the first round. The defense will be led by DB Budda Baker, but he will likely be a trade candidate when that time comes. It will be a work in progress for the new head coach Jonathan Gannon, who will have his work cut out for him on the defensive side.
Key Acquisitions: DL L.J. Collier (Seattle Seahawks), QB Joshua Dobbs (Tennessee Titans), WR Zach Pascal (Philadelphia Eagles), DL Carlos Watkins (Dallas Cowboys), LB Kyzir White (Philadelphia Eagles), OL Elijah Wilkinson (Atlanta Falcons), LB Josh Woods (Detroit Lions), OL Hjalte Froholdt (Cleveland Browns)
Key Rookies: OL Paris Johnson Jr., DE/LB BJ Ojulari, CB Garrett Williams, WR Michael Wilson
