AFC West

Standard

1. Kansas City Chiefs

They’re going for their eighth consecutive division title, sixth consecutive conference title game and fourth Super Bowl appearance out of the last five.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

They must get over that Wild Card disaster from last year. To do that they will need to keep RB Austin Ekeler happy and hope key players don’t get injured like they did last season.

3. Las Vegas Raiders

Vegas is quickly becoming the Patriots of the West. Enter QB Jimmy Garoppolo who reunites with head coach Josh McDaniels from their days in the Northeast.

4. Denver Broncos

Was last season a fluke or a sign of things to come for QB Russell Wilson? New head coach Sean Payton should be able to steer this ship back on track.

Head Coach: Andy Reid

Key Position: Offensive Line

One of the strengths of this team lost both starting tackles from a year ago. Jawaan Taylor was a solid addition for the right side, but the left side might have some problems down the road. Donovan Smith protected Tom Brady’s blind side while he was in Tampa Bay. He wasn’t the worst, but he wasn’t the best either. This could be an issue as the season progresses.

Key Acquisitions: DB Mike Edwards (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), QB Blaine Gabbert (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), WR Richie James (NY Giants), OT Donovan Smith (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), OT Jawaan Taylor (Jacksonville Jaguars), DE Charles Omenihu (San Francisco 49ers)

Key Rookies: DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah, WR Rashee Rice, DB Chamarri Conner

Head Coach: Brandon Staley

Key Position: Defense

Injuries and inconsistency plagued this unit last year. One player that must stay healthy is Joey Bosa, their best pass rusher. Another is CB J.C. Jackson who went down during the first game of the season. DB Derwin James Jr. is the wild card that is all over the field and they can’t afford for him to be off of it. LB Erick Kendricks was the only significant free agent signing and he should help solve their issue with stopping the run as they ranked 28th in that stat last year.

Key Acquisitions: LB Eric Kendricks (Minnesota Vikings)

Key Rookies: WR Quentin Johnston, LB Tuli Tuipulotu, LB Daiyan Henley

Head Coach: Josh McDaniels

Key Position: Defense

This unit sorely needs to put more pressure on opposing quarterbacks and have some playmakers cause more turnovers. Marcus Epps and Marcus Peters could provide much needed playmaking in the secondary. Maxx Crosby is the best pass rusher and should be able to repeat his 12.5 sack performance from last year. However, Chandler Jones was a disappointment and Vegas needs him to be the complement to Crosby. Drafting Tyree Wilson in the first round gives the Raiders a backup plan in case Jones doesn’t perform to standards.

Key Acquisitions: DB Marcus Epps (Philadelphia Eagles), QB Jimmy Garoppolo (San Francisco 49ers), TE Austin Hooper (Tennessee Titans), CB David Long Jr. (LA Rams), WR Jakobi Meyers (New England Patriots), CB Marcus Peters (Baltimore Ravens), LB Robert Spillane (Pittsburgh Steelers), OL Greg Van Roten (Buffalo Bills), CB Brandon Facyson (Indianapolis Colts)

Key Rookies: DE Tyree Wilson, TE Michael Mayer, DT Byron Young, WR Tre Tucker, CB Jakorian Bennett

Head Coach: Sean Payton (New Orleans Saints)

Key Position: Offense

Denver is looking to forget about the 2022 season. A lot of money was spent to shore up the offensive line with Mike McGlinchey and Ben Powers. This helps keep QB Russell Wilson protected to hopefully rebound from his disastrous first year in Denver. He has plenty of targets to throw to in WRs Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and rookie Marvin Mims Jr. If RB Javonte Williams returns healthy it will help ease the pressure that Wilson was feeling when he went down last year.

Key Acquisitions: DE Zach Allen (Arizona Cardinals), FB Michael Burton (Kansas City Chiefs), DE/LB Frank Clark (Kansas City Chiefs), OT Mike McGlinchey (San Francisco 49ers), CB Fabian Moreau (NY Giants), RB Samaje Perine (Cincinnati Bengals), OL Ben Powers (Baltimore Ravens), QB Jarrett Stidham (Las Vegas Raiders), TE Adam Trautman (New Orleans Saints)

Key Rookies: WR Marvin Mims Jr., LB Drew Sanders, DB Riley Moss
