AFC East

Standard

1. Buffalo Bills

This kind of feels like a ‘make or break’ kind of season for them to finally punch their ticket into a Super Bowl with the current crop of players.

2. New York Jets

All they needed last year was a competent quarterback. They have that now in Aaron Rodgers.

3. Miami Dolphins

Their high powered offense depends on the health of QB Tua Tagovailoa and the hiring of Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator has expectations high in South Beach.

4. New England Patriots

I find it hard to believe that Bill Belichick thought having two assistants run the offense with no offensive coaching experience was going to work out last season.

Head Coach: Sean McDermott

Key Position: Offense

With the way the season ended for them in the playoffs last year, they have to do better this year. Far too many turnovers by QB Josh Allen at crucial times. Other than WR Stephon Diggs, no other receiver had more than 50 catches. Drafting TE Dalton Kincaid in the first round adds another target to catch opposing defenses off guard. But more importantly is having the rushing attack a focal point with anyone else not named Josh Allen. RB James Cook must be more involved.

Key Acquisitions: QB Kyle Allen (Houston Texans), DE Leonard Floyd (LA Rams), RB Damien Harris (New England Patriots), OL Connor McGovern (Dallas Cowboys), RB Latavius Murray (Denver Broncos), DB Taylor Rapp (LA Rams), WR Trent Sherfield (Miami Dolphins)

Key Rookies: TE Dalton Kincaid, OL O’Cyrus Torrence, LB Dorian Williams

Head Coach: Robert Saleh

Key Position: Wide Receiver

All eyes are going to be on the new quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, his receiving targets are the ones that are gonna make or break this upcoming season in the Meadowlands. They brought in Rodgers’ former Packers teammates Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb while also singing former Chiefs speedster Mecole Hardman Jr. Tyler Conklin had a nice season last year at tight end, but what will Garrett Wilson do for an encore after his amazing Offensive Rookie of the Year season? Expect Wilson to potentially have an All-Pro type year.

Key Acquisitions: DB Adrian Amos (Green Bay Packers), WR Randall Cobb (Green Bay Packers), RB Dalvin Cook (Minnesota Vikings), WR Mecole Hardman Jr. (Kansas City Chiefs), DL Quinton Jefferson (Seattle Seahawks), WR Allen Lazard (Green Bay Packers), QB Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers), DL Al Woods (Seattle Seahawks), DB Chuck Clark (Baltimore Ravens), OL Wes Schweitzer (Washington Commanders)

Key Rookies: DE/LB Will McDonald IV, OL Joe Tippmann

Head Coach: Mike McDaniel

Key Position: Defense

There were a few bright spots in this unit last year, but there was a lot to be desired with Miami’s high octane offense scoring quick points. Enter new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio who is likely to get the 18th ranked defense from a season ago to a top-10 finish this season. Trading for CB Jalen Ramsey helps get them in that direction and even with him to miss some time due to a knee injury, it isn’t believed to keep him out the entire season. Look for DL Christian Wilkins to have a monster season.

Key Acquisitions: DB Eli Apple (Cincinnati Bengals), WR Braxton Berrios (NY Jets), DB DeShon Elliott (Detroit Lions), QB Mike White (NY Jets), OL Isaiah Wynn (New England Patriots), CB Jalen Ramsey (LA Rams)

Key Rookies: CB Cam Smith, RB De’Von Achane

Head Coach: Bill Belichick

Key Position: Offense

Now that they brought in a former offensive minded coordinator in Bill O’Brien to run the offense this season, as opposed to whatever they were doing last season. There should be much more cohesiveness this time around. QB Mac Jones is in a prove your worth type of year it seems, but last season he should be given a mulligan. The offensive line in front of him is solid and adding WR JuJu Smith-Schuster gives him a 3rd down safety net. Free agent addition Mike Gesicki could have a 60+ catch season in this tight end friendly system.

Key Acquisitions: OL Calvin Anderson (Denver Broncos), QB Matt Corral (Carolina Panthers), RB Ezekiel Elliott (Dallas Cowboys), TE Mike Gesicki (Miami Dolphins), WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (Kansas City Chiefs), OL Riley Reiff (Chicago Bears)

Key Rookies: CB Christian Gonzalez, DL Keion White, LB Marte Mapu
