Week 2 Review of the NFL

Standard

Could This Be A Sign Of Things To Come?

Short answer, probably not. Being that we are only two games into the season and considering the Dallas Cowboys have played an awful looking New York Giants team and the New York Jets without QB Aaron Rodgers. With that said, it doesn’t mean I don’t think the Cowboys can make a run. With a defense that is pressuring quarterbacks the way they are with LB Micah Parsons leading that charge. Look out. QB Dak Prescott isn’t making mistakes so far and they are running the ball with reliable ease with RB Tony Pollard as the feature back. It’s all clicking for them right now, but we are only in September. Slow down and keep those band wagon fans at bay. If they’re still doing this in January, then I’ll eat some humble pie.

Don’t Panic, Yet

Not the start the Cincinnati Bengals were expecting. Playing two division rivals to start the season and they looked outmatched in almost every category in both games. The Baltimore Ravens looked to be in mid-season form against the Bengals on their home turf. QB Joe Burrow appeared to re-aggravate the calf injury he suffered early in training camp. Assuming that Burrow’s calf doesn’t keep him out for any significant time, this team is far too talented not to right this ship. Thanks to a 17-game season now, starting 0-2 doesn’t hold the kind of wait that it used to, but it isn’t ideal. If they can win their next game at home against the Los Angeles Rams, a lot of this angst will subside.

Not Looking Good

Tell me if you’ve heard this before. A super talented Los Angeles (formerly the San Diego) Chargers team with oodles of expectations fall flat to start out the season by losing winnable games. It is quickly becoming apparent that current head coach Brandon Staley is not long for this job. He was formerly the Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator when he was hired by the Chargers in 2021. However, the team defense has been ranked 29th and 21st in the last two seasons under Staley. You couple that with the fact that the Chargers missed the playoffs with a loss in the final game of the 2021 season and blew a 27-7 halftime lead in last years Wild Card game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. All of this short history for this franchise doesn’t bode well for them going forward. That is if something gives with the play on the field from both the offense and defense.
