Much Ado About Nothing

Standard
I heard and watched the soundbite in real time and have heard and seen it repeatedly since Sunday.  My immediate reaction was, “wow, he’s a sore loser.”  But he was apart of the winning team.  Why would he react that way after a win?
I could take this in many different directions.  Some said that his response showed passion and it was ‘in the moment’ after winning a big game.  Others said that he was arrogant and a thug thinking that everyone who grows up in Compton, California is a thug at heart.  I don’t know since I didn’t grow up in Compton, but I know not to go there alone.
Our instant access to social media in this day and age gives everyone a voice and an opinion to some of the biggest events.  It also gives us access to those individuals participating in said events.
Unfortunately with the benefits of social media it has its flaws.  With the instant reaction to something so small at the time, it begins to get national attention.  Do I think Richard Sherman planned to react that way?  No.  What it have been worse if he had cursed or called Michael Crabtree a derogatory name?  Absolutely.
Since he didn’t do that what is the big deal?  That’s who Richard Sherman is.  He isn’t going to change anytime soon.  My feeling is he should have been a little more gracious in victory, but that’s my opinion and he has every right to do what he did.
I’m also a little befuddled as to why he apologized after the fact. Again did he curse or call Crabtree a name?  If he did that then I would say he better apologize.  All he said about Crabtree was that he was “sorry” meaning he isn’t that good of a player.
I’m a San Francisco 49ers fan and I was rooting for my team. When Sherman said those things about Crabtree, I for one didn’t agree with him, but that is how he feels and he said it.  Why do folks think he shouldn’t say what he feels?
Did he say something inappropriate or flip off the camera?  He’s allowed to speak his mind no matter the situation and even if he did curse or flip the bird he has a right to do it.  That would be wrong and I would like to think that athletes know better.
I want more speech not less speech.  This isn’t a political post by any means, but just a different perspective on this rather meaningless story.  Yes, it is meaningless and it shouldn’t have gotten as much attention as it did.
